Nicole Ari Parker Detailed Biography -
|
|
For the comedic actress born 1978, see Nicole Parker.
Nicole Ari Parker (born October 7, 1970 in Baltimore, Maryland) is an American actress of African-American and Cherokee descent. Briefly a model, Parker is best known for playing the tough but loving Terry Joseph in the television series version of the film Soul Food. Her casting added to the confusion between Vanessa L. Williams, who played Terry in the film, and Vanessa A. Williams, who played Maxine in the series, due to her similar features to the former, including mocha skin and light hazel eyes. In the series, she has showcased her singing voice in several episodes, but as of yet has not embraced this ability full-time careerwise. Parker also had a guest appearance on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, playing a singer.
Early in her career Nicole appeared in several critically-acclaimed independent films including The Incredibly True Adventures of Two Girls in Love, Boogie Nights, 200 Cigarettes, and the 1999 Sundance Film Festival winner The Adventures of Sebastian Cole. She starred with her husband, model and actor Boris Kodjoe, in UPN's situation comedy Second Time Around, which was cancelled in 2005.
Parker is the daughter of a dentist and an entrepreneur, and a graduate of New York University's prestigious Film School, where she majored in acting. She gave birth to her first child, Sophie Tei-Naaki Lee Kodjoe, on March 5, 2005.
