Molly Ringwald Biography

Raised in California, Ringwald began her film career at age 13, starring with John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands in Paul Mazursky's Tempest, for which she received a Golden Globe nomination. She then starred in the coming-of-age films Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Pretty In Pink, which led her to the cover of Time magazine as the top young actress of the decade. Her other film credits include The Pick-Up Artist, Fresh Horses and Betsy's Wedding. In 1992, Ringwald decided to take a leave from Hollywood and moved to Paris. Her foreign film credits include Seven Sundays, Jean-Luc Goddard's King Lear and, most recently, Enfants de Salaud, which was her first performance entirely in French. After returning to the States, she starred opposite Billy Bob Thornton in the short film Some Folks Call It a Slingblade, which was later adapted into the Oscar-winning feature Slingblade. She also starred opposite Jeanne Tripplehorn in renowned photographer Cindy Sherman's film directing debut, Office Killer. Ringwald's television credits include the series Townies, the highly-rated miniseries The Stand and the telefilms The Alison Gertz Story and Women and Men: Stories of Seduction. Read Full Bio >>
