Míchel Salgado (full name Miguel Ángel Salgado Fernández, born October 22, 1975 in Las Nieves, Spain) is a footballer, who currently plays in the right back position for Real Madrid of Spain. He is known for his combative tackling and attacking play.
He began his career in 1994, playing for another Spanish side, Celta Vigo, where he helped them gain promotion to La Liga in 1996. In 1999, Salgado was signed by Real Madrid for €6,000,000. Salgado helped Real lift the Champions League trophy in both 2000 and 2002, as well as two La Liga titles and, in 2002, the Intercontinental Cup.
Michel Salgado has built up a strong playing partnership with David Beckham, the player who commonly fills the right-midfield role ahead of him.
Salgado has been capped 34 times for Spain and was part of their Euro 2000 squad, but missed out on the 2002 World Cup.
