Chandler is a former school board member and President of the Our Lady of the Westside Schools. Later, he worked for the Department of Buildings where he was a Supervisor of Building Inspectors for thirteen years. He was a founder and member of Community In Action, Inc. which combats negative environmental issues and mobilizes the community to make changes.
Chandler was first elected alderman of the 24th ward in 1995. Recently, he authored a resolution calling for a moratorium on school closings, supported by the Chicago Teacher’s Union. Chandler serves on seven committees: Aviation; Budget and Government Operations; Committees, Rules and Ethics; Energy, Environmental Protection and Public Utilities; Finance; Historical Landmark Preservation; and Human Relations.
Chandler was defeated in the Municipal Elections in February 2007 by Sharon Denise Dixon.
Alderman Chandler is a single father of two boys.
