Joseph "McG" McGinty Nichol (born August 9, 1968) is an American film and television producer and director. He was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
McG graduated with a psychology degree from UC Irvine. He started as a still photographer in the music business, shooting local bands and musicians with whom he was friendly. He helped produce the debut album by Sugar Ray, Lemonade and Brownies. Eventually, this led him to direct music videos, namely for Fastball, Korn and The Offspring.
His films (as director) include Charlie's Angels, and its sequel Full Throttle as well as We Are Marshall. His television series credits include Fastlane, The O.C., Supernatural, Chuck and Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search For the Next Doll.
He is currently directing the next installment of the Terminator franchise: Terminator Salvation. He is also due to start work on an American version of Spaced, but without the consent or contribution of the original makers Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright or Jessica Stevenson; it will follow the same basic concept of the English version.
In 2008, McG was the executive producer for The WB Television Network's new online portal. One of the series, "Sorority Forever," is produced in conjunction with Big Fantastic, the creators of the online series "Prom Queen."
