Maribel Guardia (born May 29, 1960) is a Costa Rican-Mexican actress. Maribel Guardia was worn in Costa Rica. Maribel Guardia has Mexican citizenship. Maribel Guardia was elected Miss Costa Rica in 1977, going on to represent her birth country at the Miss Universe contest. Maribel Guardia did not become Miss Universe, but was selected as the "most photogenic" contestant. The contest had been held in Acapulco, and Maribel Guardia received offers by Televisa producer Sergio Bustamante to develop a career there. Maribel Guardia moved to Mexico in 1980; this move proved to be crucial for her show business career. In 1980, Maribel Guardia appeared in her first television show, alongside "Loco Valdez". Maribel Guardia went on to became a superstar all over Latin America, making multiple telenovelas and releasing a series of CD's in the Nortena music genre. Maribel Guardia has acted alongside some very important actors, including Andres Garcia, Saul Lisazo, and Joan Sebastian. One of Maribel Guardia's major soap opera hits was alongside Sebastian. Together, they filmed "Tu y Yo". Maribel Guardia and Joan Sebastian were married for ten years, having a son together. After the couple divorced, they remained friends, to the point that Maribel Guardia often became Joan Sebastian's confidante and listener when he battled cancer.
