In June 2005, Universal Pictures acquired the rights to Alice, an adaption of the computer game American McGee's Alice. The studio attached Nispel to direct with actress Sarah Michelle Gellar in the lead role. According to the IMDb, the movie is set for a 2009 release.
In interviews Nispel has said he is also developing a psychological thriller/drama in the vein of Last Tango in Paris. It is set to star Diane Lane and in his own words, "it's a love story with an uncomfortable edge."
