Lorna Luft Trivia -
|
- Lorna is the daughter of Judy Garland and Sidney Luft and half sister of Liza Minnelli
- Born at 3:53pm-PST
- Sister of Joey Luft, half-sister-in-law of Jack Haley Jr.
- Niece of Mary Jane Gumm and Virginia Gumm, half-sister-in-law of Peter Allen.
- Lorna's children are Jesse and Vanessa Richards.
- Recorded "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", a duet with her late mother, Judy Garland, implementing the same technology Natalie Cole used in her rendition of "Unforgettable" with her dad, 'Nat 'King' Cole' .
- Touring now for years (since 1999) with the highly successful "Songs My Mother Taught Me", a multi-media show that embraces the songs and orchestrations Judy Garland used in her concerts.
- Was executive producer on the Emmy-winning TV mini-movie Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows (2001) (TV).
- Her candid memoir "Me and My Shadows" created a big rift with father/producer Sidney Luft who is also trying to pitch a book. It also hasn't helped mend the longstanding feud with half-sister Liza Minnelli, who felt Lorna sold out their mother. Since the book has come out, Liza has backed out of a Carnegie Hall tribute to Judy that Lorna was hosting, and Lorna was a no-show at Liza's wedding extravaganza to David Gest, claiming she was booked to perform at a "gay Mardi Gras" in Sydney, Australia.
- Was a background vocalist for the rock band Blondie on their 1979 album "Eat to the Beat" (on the songs "Slow Motion" and "Accidents Never Happen").
- Was friends with the late John Ritter.
- Unlike Mother Judy Garland, half sister Liza Minnelli and brother Joey Luft, Lorna has blue eyes. Joe, Liza and Judy have brown eyes.
- Mother of Vanessa Richards.
- Was a frequent guest at legendary disco club Studio 54.
- Shares a birthday with Björk, Goldie Hawn, Rachel Rogers, Nicollette Sheridan, & Juliet Mills

Lorna Luft Detailed Biography -
|
|
Lorna Luft (born November 21, 1952 in Santa Monica, California) is an American entertainer, who has appeared on stage in Broadway, television, and film since childhood. She is the daughter of celebrity couple Judy Garland and Sidney Luft, the sister of Joey Luft, and the half-sister of Liza Minnelli. Her father was Jewish and her mother was of Irish and Scottish descent.
She toured with her mother and brother in a summer concert tour in 1967, culminating in a run at the Palace Theater in New York City. An album of the Palace show was recorded and released on the ABC Paramount label under the title Judy Garland At Home at the Palace: Opening Night.
She is the author of the 1998 book Me and My Shadows: Living with the Legacy of Judy Garland. Among its more astounding revelations is that she had a romance with Barry Manilow. Luft was also the Co-Executive Producer of the 2001 TV movie Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows, based on the book, which won five Emmy Awards.
She made her Broadway debut in Promises, Promises, and later starred in Extremities alongside Farrah Fawcett.
Notable films include: Where the Boys Are '84, Grease 2 and 54. She appeared in a cameo in I Could Go On Singing, her mother's final film.
Luft was a regular on the M*A*S*H spin-off Trapper John, M.D..
Her recordings include "Our Day Will Come" (Epic Records single), "Long Time" (European single), "Born Again" (European single), and "Where the Boys Are" (U.S. single). She appears on the soundtracks of Grease 2 and the touring company of Crazy for You. She released a single version of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", which was an electronic duet with her mother (Ã la Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole's duet of "Unforgettable"). She was briefly a backup singer for Blondie, and appears on their album Eat to the Beat.
In 1996, she went to Dublin to star in an Irish production of Follies with Enda Markey, Dave Willetts and Millicent Martin. Her appearance was critically acclaimed by Irish and British theater critics in the area.
Luft currently tours in a multi-media production called Songs My Mother Taught Me, performing many songs made famous by her mother. She lives in Beverly Hills with her husband, musician Colin R. Freeman, and her children Jesse and Vanessa. The show Songs My Mother Taught Me has been performed in London and Ireland (as of February 2006).
