Lloyd Banks Biography

Lloyd Banks (born Christopher Lloyd, April 30, 1982 in New Carrollton, Maryland), is a successful rapper and member of the popular hip-hop group G-Unit. Banks, who is of African-American and Puerto Rican descent, is the youngest member of the group.

Lloyd Banks moved to Queens, NY when he was six years old. During his teenage years, Lloyd Banks became a protege to childhood friend 50 Cent, who is several years older than Banks. His solo debut album The Hunger For More includes the hit singles "On Fire", "I'm So Fly", and "Karma". The Hunger For More sold over 400,000 copies in its first week, putting him behind only millionaire rap mogul 50 Cent for most sold in the opening week in G-Unit. It has been rumored that Lloyd Banks was to be signed to Aftermath Records preceding 50 Cent. Allegedly, 50 Cent persuaded Eminem and Dr. Dre to sign him rather than Lloyd Banks, signing Banks to his own G-Unit Records instead. Lloyd Banks, also known as "The Boy Wonder" or "The Number One Draft Pick", has a strong presence on the mixtape circuit. He has released a number of mixtapes, mainly with DJ and producer DJ Whoo Kid, including Mo Money In The Bank Parts 1, 2, and 3. He consequently won "Mixtape Artist of the Year" at the the Justo Mixtape Awards in 2004. Banks' reputation is based on his ability as a punch-line rapper, meaning that his verses often contain many one-to-two bar sets of lyrics (often metaphorical or with similes) that are amusing by themselves and can also be lyrically vicious towards other rappers. His two younger brothers Tony and Damion appear in Banks' video for "Smile" as younger versions of the rapper. Read Full Bio >>
