In 1965 she had a daughter, whom she put up for adoption. She met the girl in 1996, and they now have a good relationship. Her daughter is a model in Canada, named Kilauren Gibb. Awarded the Polar Music Prize, the Royal Swedish Academy of Music Award, in 1996. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Was invited to play at Woodstock, but her manager refused to let her because she was scheduled to make her national television debut on "The Dick Cavett Show" (1969). He saw how bad the traffic was and told her that she wouldn't make it back in time. As a result, she wrote the classic song "Woodstock", which ironically became a hit for Crosby Stills Nash & Young, who did appear at the festival. Was at one time romantically involved with Graham Nash. In fact, Nash wrote the song "Our House" about their relationship. Ranked #5 on VH1's 100 Greatest Women of Rock N Roll Her father was a trumpet player in a Canadian marching band. She took up folk singing for fun and to earn pocket change for cigarettes, movies and dances while she attended art school. Had polio as a child and due to complications from the disease cannot play a wide body acoustic guitar because of the pressure it puts on her back and shoulder. Instruments played include the guitar, piano, oboe, and autoharp. She was voted the 60th Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Artist of all time by Rolling Stone.
