John Mayer Detailed Biography
John Mayer received the most recent (2005) Grammys in 2 independent categories - the first category for "Song of the Year" for his song "Daughters", and the second for the category "Best Male Pop Vocal performance" for the same song.
John mayer is one of the most popular young superstars around. John Mayer was born on October 16, 1977 and he grew up in Connecticut. Initially John only specifically listened to pop music. According to him, when he was 13 years old, he was astonished by Stevie Ray Vaughn. His goal then became to learn the guitar and emulate Stevie Ray Vaughn. After about 2 years, John was already performing in blues clubs while impressing them with his brilliance at such a young age. Eventually John decided that was not the route he wanted to take so that he may have a successful music career.
It was the famous South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas in March of 2000, was where he was discovered and soon after signed to a recording contract. His debut album was entitled, Room for Squares.
In actuality this was not his true debut album as John Mayer had already released a debut album on his own, Inside Wants Out. Before he had even been signed, he was already being compared to such superstars as Dave Matthews Band and Jacob Dylan.
Room for Squares was a huge blockbuster hit and John was even nominated for a Grammy in 2002 for Best New Artist, but he unfortunately lost to Norah Jones. Many fellow artists lost to Norah that night as she basically swept the Grammys. Room for Squares sold a solid 3 million albums and produced hit singles such as No Such Thing, Why Georgia, and Your Body Is a Wonderland.
For the next tour years, John Mayer would work very hard on promotion and touring of his music; it all paid off. In 2003 he won a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. He even released a live version CD and DVD. The CD only achieved gold status while the DVD achieved platinum status, which is very remarkable in itself.
