- Studied Political Science at Amherst College in Massachusetts.
- Graduated from Amherst College in Massachusetts in 1987
- Won Broadway's 1994 Tony Award as Best Actor (Featured Role - Play) for Tony Kushner's "Angels In America: Perestroika," a role he recreated in the television mini-series version, _"Angels in America" (2000) (mini)_ . In 2002, he was nominated for Tony's Best Actor (Play) Award for "Topdog/Underdog."

Jeffrey Wright Detailed Biography -

Wright was most recently seen in John Singleton's Shaft. He was also seen starring in Ang Lee's Ride With the Devil which was released domestically in November of 1999.
Additional films due for release include Detox, an action-thriller starring Sylvester Stallone, Too Tired to Die, a fantasy drama directed by Wonsuk Chin with Mira Sorvino, the independent film, Cement, which will feature actor Adrian Pasdar's feature film directorial debut and the short film Blossoms and Veils for Will Smith's production company, in which he stars with Jada Pinkett for director Shonda Rhimes.
Wright made his screen debut in the title role of Basquiat, the true story of the graffiti artist who became one of the most successful, controversial, and glamorous painters of the eighties modern art scene. Directed by Julian Schnabel, the film also starred David Bowie, Gary Oldman, Benicio del Toro and Courtney Love.
Other film credits include Sidney Lumet's Critical Care with James Spader and Kyra Sedgewick, Jeff Stanzler's Jumpin at the Boneyard, Paul Mazursky's Faithful, and Adrian Pasdar's acclaimed short film Beyond Belief.
Wright completed a successful run on Broadway at the Ambassador Theater in the award-winning musical Bring in 'da Noise Bring in 'da Funk. Wright starred in George C. Wolfe and Savion Glover's musical ode to African-American history. This summer, Wright will play Marc Antony in Shakespeare In The Park's presentation of Julius Caesar.
On television, Wright was last seen in a three-episode arc of the critical favorite, Homicide: Life on the Street. The Barry Levinson produced series featured Wright playing the son of James Earl Jones' character on the show.
Wright's television credits also include guest appearances on New York Undercover, The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, and the mini-series Separate But Equal.
