Jeffrey "Jeff" Richmond (born January 7, 1960) is an American composer, actor and television producer. Richmond currently produces and composes the music for 30 Rock, a sitcom created by and starring his wife Tina Fey. The show recently completed its second season and will begin its third season October 30th, 2008.
Richmond attended and graduated from Kent State University in Ohio in the late 1980's, where he co-authored a number of musicals.
He worked at The Second City before he began composing music for the series Saturday Night Live. Richmond left SNL in 2006 to produce and compose music for the situation comedy, 30 Rock. The show's title is a reference to 30 Rockefeller Plaza, where SNL is produced and 30 Rock is set.
The show debuted to mostly positive reviews, however, ratings for its original timeslot on Wednesdays at 8 PM were weak. Rather than cancel the show, NBC moved the show into a revamped Thursday Must See TV comedy lineup (dubbed "Comedy Night Done Right") at the end of November sweeps. After its first episode in its new Thursday 9:30 PM timeslot on November 30, 2006, the network picked up the show for the entire season. Richmond has appeared as an extra on various occasions on 30 Rock.
Richmond has also appeared in a recurring role on Late Night with Conan O'Brien as the short character of "Russian Hat Guy."
Jeff Richmond is married to Tina Fey, creator and cast member of 30 Rock. They met before their jobs on SNL and dated for seven years before marrying in a Greek Orthodox ceremony on June 3, 2001 They have a daughter, Alice Zenobia Richmond, who was born on September 10, 2005.
