Jazmine Sullivan was born on April 9, 1987 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S. She is the middle sister between two brothers. She is a 2005 graduate of the Philadelphia high school for the Creative and Performing Arts where she was a vocal music major. Jazmine Sullivan has been nominated for five Grammy awards, which will be held on February 8, 2009. She is an American R&B and soul music singer-songwriter. The rising star Sullivan spent several years learning the ropes of the recording industry before signing to Jive Records. Her debut single "Need U Bad" featuring Missy Elliott has reached number one on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. She began her career at a young age, making her national television debut on Showtime at the Apollo at the of age 11 and signing to Jive Records at age of 15. But unfortunately, J Records scrapped her album and cut her loose after two years. In the wake of this disappointment, she began working behind the scenes, for instance working with Missy Elliott on productions for Fantasia's debut album, Free Yourself (2004), and writing a couple songs for Christina Milian's third album, So Amazin' (2006), including the hit single "Say I." Sullivan was then offered a solo recording contract with J Records, which released her debut single, "Need U Bad," featuring and coproduced by Missy Elliott, in 2008. Her fulllength album debut, featuring productions by Saalam Remi and Stargate, among others, followed later in the year.
