Jamie Lynn Marie Spears (born April 4, 1991) is an American
actress and singer. She is best known for starring in the Nickelodeon television
series Zoey 101 and is the younger sister of Britney Spears.
Jamie Lynn Spears was born in McComb, Mississippi and spends
most of her time in Kentwood, Louisiana where she lives with her mother. She
also spends time in Malibu, California to film Zoey 101 every summer. She attends
school at Parklane Academy in McComb, Mississippi, where she is a cheerleader
and has been involved in other sports such as softball, basketball, and soccer.
She is also an accomplished gymnast and dancer. She is the younger sister of
pop music singer Britney Spears, age 25, and Bryan Spears, age 30.
Spears appeared in 2001's Total Britney Live and in a Pepsi
television commercial in 2002. In the same year, she appeared briefly in the
movie Crossroads, as the younger version of the main character, Lucy, who was
played by her older sister Britney Spears.
For two seasons, Jamie Lynn was a cast member on the comedy-variety
show on Nickelodeon All That. While on All That, she played many different characters,
including one of her own creation- Thelma Stump, an 80-year-old bodyguard who
loves bacon. She also did many On-Air Dares (a Nickelodeon version of Fear Factor)
skits where she and other All That cast members had to do many disgusting tasks.
She eventually left All That to star in Zoey 101.
Jamie Lynn also sings the theme song for Zoey 101 which was
written by Emily Bob, entitled "Follow Me" (which was co-written by
her sister). She stars as one of the first girls to enter a formerly all-boy
boarding school. Zoey 101 drew record numbers with the premiere of the show,
which gave the channel viewers aged 9-14, its biggest viewership in the demographic
for a premiere in eight years. Zoey 101 was nominated for a 2005 Emmy In 2006,
Spears won a Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards for best Female TV Star and best
TV Female Actress.
Though Jamie Lynn expressed more interest in having a singing
career, as of now she is just sticking to acting and plans to do so temporarily.
There have been rumors of record deals, but they are unconfirmed. Currently,
she can be heard singing the Zoey 101 theme song co-written by Britney; and
with the girl group Triple Image in "Hey Now (Girls Just Wanna Have Fun)"
(recorded in 2002).
"I think I'm going to do a lot of acting first, then go
to singing. I definitely want to sing someday, though. When I do start singing,
buy my album!", Jamie Lynn said.
