Heather OReilly Detailed Biography -
|
Heather Ann O'Reilly (born January 2, 1985 in New Brunswick, New Jersey and a graduate of East Brunswick High School) is an American women's soccer player. She currently divides her time as a striker between the University of North Carolina, the US Women's National Team, and the New Jersey Wildcats, a W-League team.
Heather, often nicknamed HAO, made her first appearance with the full National Team on March 1, 2002 against Sweden.
On August 23, 2004, O'Reilly scored the game-winning goal in the Olympics quarterfinal match against Germany, propelling the United States into the final, in which they defeated Brazil for the gold medal. This goal came on a pass from Mia Hamm, O'Reilly's childhood idol (and a Carolina alum), and has been seen by some as symbolizing the passing of the torch from the older generation of US Women's soccer to the younger one.
