Hamish Linklater (born July 7, 1976 in Great Barrington, Massachusetts) is an American actor, currently starring as Matthew in the CBS sitcom The New Adventures of Old Christine. He is the son of dramatic vocal trainer Kristin Linklater.
Linklater was born on July 7, 1976 to Kristin Linklater, Professor of Theatre and Chair of the Acting Division at Columbia University and a renowned teacher of vocal technique. As a single mother, she raised her son partly in the Berkshires, where she was a founder of the Shakespeare & Company drama troupe. Her son was eight when he began doing small Shakespearean roles. Linklater attended the Commonwealth School in Boston and Amherst College.
His grandfather, Eric Linklater was a noted Scottish novelist of part Swedish origin, and one of the founders of the Scottish National Party. His uncle, Magnus Linklater is a noted Scottish journalist.
While first establishing himself on the stage, he made his big screen debut in 2000's Groove. That was followed by his role as CNN correspondent Richard Roth in the HBO movie Live from Baghdad. He has since appeared in numerous movies, recently Fantastic Four (2005). He had a recurring role on the television show American Dreams as well as Gideon's Crossing. He was second-in-line to play Logan in the series Dark Angel (2000-2002), a role that went to Michael Weatherly.
In July 2006, Linklater appeared in Keith Bunin's "The Busy World Is Hushed" opposite Jill Clayburgh off-broadway at Playwrights Horizons. He has also played Hamlet at South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa California, and the Long Wharf Theater in New Haven, CT. On Halloween 2007, Linklater appeared in an episode of Pushing Daisies on ABC, entitled "Girth", playing John Joseph Jacobs, a supposed-dead "horse jockey".
Linklater has been married to playwright Jessica Goldberg since January of 2002. The couple had a daughter, Lucinda Rose, in April 2007.
