Gérard Depardieu is one of France's most prolific and best loved actors. His career boasts over 100 films since 1965. His credits are almost too numerous to mention, although many will remember him best in Green Card for which he won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Comedy and My Father the Hero. Perhaps the film which brought Depardieu international stardom was the 1990 production of Cyrano de Bergerac. His portrayal of Cyrano earned him an Academy Award® nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Lead Role, as well as the 1990 Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Male Performance, nine Césars including Best Actor and a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film. Some of his many other film credits include: Le Dernier Metro for which he won a Cesar for Best Actor; Le Retour de Martin Guerre for which the American Critics Society voted him Best Actor; Danton, Police for which he won Best Male Performance at the 1985 Venice Film Festival and the classic, Jean de Florette.
