DeGraw was born on February 4, 1977. DeGraw grew up in South Fallsburg, New York, United States. His father was a prison guard, as mentioned in his song "I Don't Wanna Be". DeGraw is a singer, songwriter, pianist, and guitarist. He tours to small venues throughout the United States. His J Records debut album, Chariot, includes eleven songs. DeGraw's profile erupted after his song "I Don't Wanna Be" was featured as theme song for the teen soap opera One Tree Hill, which airs on The WB on Wednesdays at 8/7c. Another of DeGraw's songs, "Follow Through," has also achieved popularity and radio play. His song "We Belong Together" has been featured in the 2006 movie Tristan and Isolde, starring James Franco and Sophia Myles. DeGraw recently released an acoustic version of Chariot called Chariot Stripped. DeGraw and his band recorded the album live, in the studio, in only one take on the vocals, seeking an intimate effect. Originally, DeGraw started in Manhattan clubs drawing his hometown fans to small clubs. Over 2004, his profile has grown bringing him to other states as he tours the country. He has appeared on television shows such as The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, The Late Show With David Letterman, The Ellen DeGeneres Show , and Live with Regis and Kelly.
