Emilie de Ravin (pronounced [ˈɛməˌli: də ˈrævɪn]) (born 27 December 1981) is an Australian actress. She is known for starring in the hit ABC drama Lost as the character Claire Littleton.
De Ravin was born in Mount Eliza, Victoria, Australia (a town to the south east of Melbourne). Having studied ballet since the age of nine, she was accepted into the highly selective Australian Ballet School at fifteen. There, she performed in productions with the Australian Ballet Company as well as Danceworld 301. De Ravin studied acting at Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Art, and with the Prime Time Actors Studio in Los Angeles.
She first starred in BeastMaster. De Ravin was previously best known for her role as alien/human hybrid Tess Harding on the hit teen drama Roswell. De Ravin portrayed an alien who was determined to fulfill her destiny and became a mother with her boyfriend Max. Near the end of the series she sacrificed her life to hide the identities of her son and the other alien hybrids. She landed this role one month after moving to Los Angeles at the age of 18.
In 2006 she starred in two films, the horror The Hills Have Eyes as Brenda Carter, and in the film Brick, a small film which was popular in the Sundance Film Festival.
In 2007, a year after she starred in The Hills Have Eyes and Brick as well as her role in Lost she was honoured by the Australians In Film council. She joined such names as Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman.
She appeared at the 2007 MuchMusic Video Awards on Sunday, June 17, 2007.

On 1 January 2005, de Ravin became engaged to actor Josh Janowicz while visiting her family in Australia. They married in a small ceremony on 19 June 2006 in Melbourne, Australia. They dated four years prior to the marriage.[citation needed] She lived in Los Angeles, California with Janowicz,, commuting back and forth between Oahu, Hawaii where Lost is filmed.
As of January 2007, she separated from her husband after six months of marriage.
Her French last name means "From the ravine/gully". Her first name is originally written Émilie in French.
