Debbie Matenopoulos Detailed Biography -
|
|
Debbie Matenopoulos (born December 13, 1974) is an American journalist, talk show host, and actress.
She was born in Richmond, Virginia, but is of Greek ancestry, and her birth name is Despina Matenopoulos after her grandmother. This name was later "Americanized" to Debbie.
She attended the Virginia Commonwealth University for two years before transferring to the School of Journalism at New York University. While at NYU, she also worked at MTV. At the cable channel she gradually moved up the ranks, beginning as an intern and eventually becoming story coordinator for the show UnFiltered.
In 1997 she became a co-host on Barbara Walters's talk show The View, then left in 1999. (Some sources report that she was fired.) In 1999, she joined the TV Guide Channel. Debbie has played Lisa Swayzak in the 2000Endsville. She also starred in the claymation show Celebrity Deathmatch as herself after the former Stacey Cornbred combusted.
In August 2004, Good Day Live brought in Matenopoulous (along with Arthel Neville) to co-host the nationally syndicated program after ratings (as well as she herself) had taken a tumble from the season before. Despite massive promotion, including a mall-tour featuring Matenopoulous and Neville, the show was cancelled by its syndicators in March 2005.
On July 5, 2003, she married Jay Faires, the president and founder of Mammoth Records.
In January 2006, Matenopoulos joined E!'s coverage of the Golden Globe Awards.
