Being born in Leeds , West Yorshire, Corinne was the eldest of the three daughters of her 'Kittitian father' and also mother having English origination. Frequently she was a victim of racial abuse while growing up. However the attackers had the presumption that she was an Iraqi.

The musical career of Corinne Rae started from school where she went to take lesson in classical violin .After getting transferred to a Baptist church,she began singing . She was a part of a choir that would sing traditional hymns, and Primal Scream tunes.

In nutshell, Corinne's performance in the church has widened her muiscal knowledge and interests .To top it all, her love for music took a concrete shape when a local youth leader offered to buy her an electric guitar. Rae's involvement with Helen, an indie group comprising of women members only, is a stepping stone in her career. In fact the group Helen drew inspiration from similar acts like Veruca Salt and L7. In the then white male-dominated world of indie music, this group has drawn the attention of so many people. The reason is obvious; they were an all-female group fronted by Leeds who is a mixed-race singer. The group often played gigs around Leeds and finally became the 1st indie act to be signed to heavy metal record label Roadrunner Records, home to acts such as Slipknot, in the year 1995. The project did not mature further since the bassist became pregnant that resulted in the dismantle of the entire group. Till date it is often heard Rae making a statement that she proud to be ' Leeds United A.F.C. fan.'

With the disbanding of Helen group, Corinne took admission University of Leeds in order to study an English Literature . While at University,in the evening time she started working 'as a hat check girl' in her local jazz club . When business went low, she was given permission to sing on the stage with the jazz band . It was during this time that she got the chance to get acquianted with new genre of music . She kept on hearing this music called jazz and finally realized her passion for it.

Corinne has an illustrious careergraph. For more than three years, Rae has on solo material that helps her to steer away from her past memories of indie group and thus embarks on "soulful" path. She got together with a funk group called The New Mastersounds . It has its basis in Leeds.Its musical track, namely, "Your Love Is Mine", was featured on their album 'Be Yourself,'that was released in the 2003 via One Note Records. The following year she again worked with Homecut Directive, another Leeds-based group, on the song "Come the Revolution".

In the year 2004, Corinne got a breakthrough in her career when she Global Talent Publishing signed her . Not only that she was also being approached by Craig David's mentor Mark Hill and also from the duo The Artful Dodger, to make appearance on his new album better luck next time. Rae appeared there under his new alias, The stiX. The resulting collaboration, "Young and Foolish", was released in 2005 April . Thus she came into the eye of the major record label bosses.In November 2005 Rae brought out her debut single,called "Like a Star", and also her first album,namely Corinne Bailey Rae, in February 2006. In September 2006, Rae received 2 awards at the MOBO Awards of United Kingdom . These awards are "Best UK Newcomer" and "Best UK Female". Corinne recorded a live session at Abbey Road Studios for Live from Abbey Road in the month of July 2006.

Corinne Rae also received 3 nominations at the famous Grammy Awards for the year 2007: "Record of the Year", "Song of the Year" (both for "Put Your Records On"), and "Best New Artist". In this gala ceremony, she performed "Like a Star" and clubbed up with John Legend and John Mayer for a joint performance, offering sequent vocals to Legend's "Coming Home" and Mayer's "Gravity".

Corinne also involved herself with various activities as well. Numerous songs from Rae's debut album constitutes of the soundtrack of 2006 film called Venus. Rae is co-credited by the filmmakers for the score.She toured UK in the beginning of March 2007. In the June 2006 issue of Q magazine, Rae was found singing a cover of Bj�rk's song "Venus as a Boy" of the year 1993. On Radio 1 Live Lounge Rae sang songs like "Like a Star", and a cover version of Editors' "Munich" and a cover version of Justin Timberlake's "SexyBack".
Rae had her performance at Memphis in May Beale Street Music Festival that was held on 6 May 2007. She made an appearance at the famous program, The Oprah Winfrey Show and performed Like a Star and Put Your Records On. She also appeared on the Tavis Smiley Show She recorded John Lennon's "I'm Losing You" for Make Some Noise, Amnesty International's music venture. The song was also brough put on John Lennon tribute album, "Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur." It was released in the year 2007. On 7 July, 2007 at London's Wembley Stadium, Rae performed at the UK leg of Live Earth .Her recordings with Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and other famous jazz musicians also are praiseworthy.

Throwing some light on Corine's personal life it can be added that she met Jason Rae, the saxophone player, while she was studying in the university. In the year 2001 , at an age of 22, Rae tied her wedding knot with him.

Recently her husband had an untimely death. On March 23 2008, it was reported that his dead body was found in a flat in Leeds. According to the media report, drug overdose is the reason of his unnatural death. A post-mortem was neck and neck, and the police is waiting for the results of toxicology tests to come out. Rae was not found in the flat at the time of his husband's death.
