Dylan Thomas Sprouse and Cole Mitchell Sprouse (born August 4, 1992, in Arezzo, Italy) are identical twin brothers and actors. They are best known for their leading role as twins in Disney Channel's The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.
Dylan and Cole were born in Arezzo, Italy in 1992 to Americans Melanie and Matthew Sprouse. Dylan Sprouse was named for the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas and Cole Sprouse was named for the jazz singer and pianist Nat King Cole. They have dual citizenship, between America and Italy. They can speak English and Italian. When Dylan and Cole were born, their parents were teaching at an American School in Tuscany. Their parents moved the family back to California to be closer to extended family. The brothers were raised in Southern California. Their parents divorced a few months before the filming of Big Daddy in 1999. Currently they are in 8th grade and are being homeschooled after attending a public school in California.
Dylan and Cole began acting at the young age of six months by suggestion of their grandmother, who was a drama teacher and an actress. Their first commercial was for toilet paper. They have been acting ever since. As with many identical twins, the boys often played the same role allowing more time for the character to be filmed. From 1993 to 1998, they both starred as Brett Butler's youngest child, Patrick Kelly, on the ABC-TV series, Grace Under Fire. The first movie they shot was the comedy Big Daddy (1999) with Adam Sandler where the twins doubled as 5-year-old Julian. In the same year, their second feature film The Astronaut's Wife was released, starring Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron. Cole Sprouse guest-starred in several episodes of Friends as Ross's son, Ben. They were both featured in Dana Carvey's film The Master of Disguise, where they played the role of Young Pistachio. In 2004 they shared the role of Older Jeremiah in the dramatic film The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things, directed by and starring Asia Argento, taken from JT LeRoy's book. Their other film credits include Eight Crazy Nights and Piggy Banks.
Currently they star in the Disney Channel television series The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, co-starring Brenda Song and Ashley Tisdale. In this original comedy they play identical twins; Dylan plays Zack Martin and Cole plays Cody Martin.
In September 2005, they signed a licensing agreement with Dualstar Entertainment , Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's company, creating a new brand line, called "Sprouse Bros". It will include DVD movies, CDs, clothing, sports gear, and video games targeted towards the preteen and teen audience.
