Charlotte Gainsbourg is the daughter of French singer, songwriter and actor Serge Gainsbourg and British actress Jane Birkin. She grew up in the public eye not only because she had celebrity parents, but because she had celebrity parents who had never married, lived openly together and had a child. She made her screen debut in 1983 as Catherine Deneuve's daughter in "Love Songs". Two years later, Claude Miller cast Gainsbourg as the tempest-tossed adolescent in "L'Effrontee" and gained instant acclaim for her sensitive portrayal of a disturbed teenager. Charlotte's performance proved a huge hit with the critics and in March 1986, and she was the Best Female Newcomer of the Year. Charlotte Gainsbourg became a star as a teenager in France, then moved to crack America and the international film world with the leading role in the 1996 remake of "Charlotte Bronte's 'Jane Eyre'". Before she was 15, Gainsbourg had won a Cesar for her performance. In 1989, American audience saw her for the first time in "The Little Thief". She has since appeared in several other films, including "The Cement Garden" (1993), "Kung Fu Master!" (1987). In 2000, she won the Cesar for Best Supporting Actress in her role "La Buche".
