Was cast in "Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later" 1998 as a detective, but as script changes rolled in, the role was cut.
Has twice been nominated for Broadway's Tony Award for plays written by August Wilson: in 1985, as Best Actor (Featured Role - Play) for "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom," and in 1990, as Best Actor (Play) for "The Piano Lesson."

An ex-convict who served seven and a half years in prison for fatally stabbing a man in a street fight. While a prisoner, he developed a passion for the theater and completed a two-year college degree course.
