Bryan Herta Detailed Biography -
Bryan Herta (born on May 23, 1970 in Warren, Michigan) is an American race car driver in the Indy Racing League's IndyCar Series. He currently drives for Andretti Green Racing, which is co-owned by former Champ Car and IRL driver Michael Andretti. He also drives for A1 Team USA. At the event in Australia, Herta scored a 10th place finish.
From 1994 to 2001, Herta raced in the Champ Car World Series full-time, for team owners including Chip Ganassi, Bobby Rahal and Gerry Fosythe, winning two events back-to-back in 1998 and 1999 at Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca in Monterey, California, winning both races from the pole. He might've won three, as in 1996, also at Laguna Seca, he was the leader until the last lap, when Alex Zanardi dove to Herta's right coming to the famous "Corkscrew" chicane, making the pass through the dirt on the right hand turn of the chicane, stealing the race win from Herta. The move is now known in Champ Car lore as "The Pass."
In 2003, in just his third IRL start having joined the team after Dario Franchitti was injured, Herta picked up his first IndyCar Series win at Kansas Speedway. He was retained in an expanded 4-car squad in 2004, usually running development engines. On July 31, 2005, Herta nabbed his second IndyCar Series win, defeating AGR teammate Dan Wheldon in a close finish in the Firestone Indy 400 at the Michigan International Speedway.
