Bernd Schuster (born December 22, 1959 in Augsburg) is a German football coach and former player.
Schuster started his professional career with 1. FC Cologne in 1978 winning his first championship with the club the same year. He left Cologne in 1980 after having performed splendidly at the European Cup which he won with his native Germany. He was then scouted by FC Barcelona to further his skills. During his career, he played for clubs such as Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen. In the UEFA Golden Jubilee Poll, where people voted to name the finest European players of the last 5 decades, he finished 40th.
He played 21 caps for the German national team. He retired at age 23 from international games due to his strong disagreements with the German Football Association DFB, a unique event in the sport world.
After his retirement in 1997, Schuster has coached several clubs, currently he is with Getafe CF with whom he agreed until 2007.
