 Anton Yelchin Detailed Biography
Anton Yelchin was born on June 23, 1989, in Russia (though it was still called the U.S.S.R. at that time). At 6 months old Anton Yelchin's parents and he moved to the United States. Anton Yelchin is the son of famed figure skaters Victor and Irina. As a young child Anton Yelchin's parents started him out to follow in their skate-prints, but Anton Yelchin was not satisfied. "I didn't understand the point of skating around in a circle," he says. "I wasn't good at it either." But Anton Yelchin found his calling in 1998 when a friend suggested he try acting lessons. He quickly got some roles in commercials and in 1999 scored a minor movie role in "A Man Is Mostly Water." Next Anton Yelchin was featured in the 2000 TV movie "Geppetto," along with dozens of other young actors. He also starred as Milo in "Delivering Milo" (2000) and garnered several other minor roles, including a guest-starring role in an episode of "ER" (2000). In 2001 Anton Yelchin starred as Dimitri Starodubov in the thriller "Along Came a Spider." But Anton Yelchin's best role yet still was ahead.

Anton Yelchin was the clear choice to play Bobby Garfield opposite Oscar® winner Sir Anthony Hopkins as Ted Brautigan in the critically acclaimed "Hearts in Atlantis," which opened in the fall of 2001. Director Scott Hicks commented, "Anton appears not to be acting . . . It just comes out of his eyes." Hopkins was equally impressed, not only by young Anton's skill before the camera, but also by his gentle demeanor and personality. What did Anton Yelchin have to say about working with Anthony Hopkins? "When I first met (Hopkins) I was so nervous, my eye kept twitching. But then I calmed down because he was so nice."

Anton Yelchin also had a pivotal role in Steven Spielberg's science-fiction TV mini-series, "Taken" (2002), playing Jacob Clarke as a child. Anton Yelchin's current role is in the SHOWTIME original series, HUFF, which premiered on November 7, 2004. Huff is about a successful psychiatrist, Dr. Craig "Huff" Huffstodt, who is thrown into turmoil after a 15-year-old patient, who had just "come out" to his parents, commits suicide in his office. Huff soon finds himself plagued by a bizarre fantasy life. Anton Yelchin plays Byrd Huffstodt, the doctor's 14-year-old son. Anton Yelchin can soon be seen in the movie "Fierce People" (limited release 12/24, expands 1/14/05) and is filming "Alpha Dog" for 2005 release.
