Ann is the oldest of five children born to an American father and a Japanese mother. She grew up in Oregon. Her father is of French, Scotch-Irish, and Amerindian descent. She grew up in Ashland, Oregon, USA. Ann was born in Guam to American and Japanese parents. Her family moved often until they finally settled down in Ashland, Oregon where Ann was eventually brought up. Ann Curry (born November 19, 1956 in Guam and raised in Ashland, Oregon) is an American journalist and television personality. She is a Japanese American via her mother; her father is of predominantly French and Scots-Irish descent. Curry is a graduate of the University of Oregon School of Journalism. She was a reporter and won two Emmys for KCBS-TV in Los Angeles, California from 1984-1990, joined NBC News in 1990 and from 1992-1996 she anchored NBC News at Sunrise. During this time she also filled in for Faith Daniels, Marget Larson, and Matt Lauer as The Today Show newsreader. Curry has also filled in for Maria Shriver, Mary Alice Williams, Jackie Nespral, and Jodi Applegate as the co-host of Saturday Today, and Sunday Today from 1990 to 1999. Curry also filled in for Jodi Applegate on the former NBC News program Later Today from 1999 to 2000. She is married to software executive Brian Ross. Since 1997, she has been the main contributor at the news desk on the NBC morning show Today. She has two children, Mackenzie, 12, Walker, 10. In May 2005, it was announced that Curry would become a co-host of Dateline NBC with Stone Phillips. She began this job on June 24, 2005. She still holds her position on Today. Curry has filled in for Bryant Gumbel, Katie Couric, and Matt Lauer on The Today Show from 1992 to the present date and for Tom Brokaw on NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw from 1994 to 1999 and for Brian Williams on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams from 1993 to 1999 and she has also served as a rotating anchor for NBC Nightly News Sunday from 1993 to 1999.
