Andreas Isaksson (born October 3, 1981 in Trelleborg, Sweden) is a football goalkeeper. He currently plays for Rennes in France.
Isaksson started his career with his home-town team Trelleborg, where he played two seasons 1998 and 1999. He became known as a great goalkeeping prospect and was thus bought by Italian giants Juventus in 1999. Juventus saw him as a promising talent, but considering the competition in a club of Juventus' status Isaksson never played a first-team game.
He began to feel that he would not be able to develop unless he could play first-team football. In 2001 he signed with Swedish team Djurgården. In his first two full seasons, 2002 and 2003, Djurgården won two straight Swedish titles as well as the cup in 2002. He was widely recognised as the best goalkeeper in Allsvenskan.
While at Djurgården, Isaksson established himself as the second-choice goalkeeper after Magnus Hedman for the Swedish national team. By the Euro 2004 championship, however, Hedman's problems at Celtic gave Isaksson the opportunity to become the first choice. He played all Sweden's matches at Euro 2004. In acknowledgement of his good performance, Rennes signed him where he is now the starting goalkeeper. Fellow former Djurgården player Kim Källström also plays at the club.
Andreas Isaksson remains the first-choice goalkeeper for his national team in anticipation of the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
Isaksson speaks five languages. He is also recognizable by his height, 1.99 m (6'6½").
