Amy Sedaris was born on March 29, 1961, in New York City and was raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. Amy Sedaris finally escaped, with brother David's encouragement, to Chicago. Amy Sedaris took classes at Second City and appeared on the main stage in the early '90s. Steven Colbert and Paul Dinello were castmates there and would become major collaborators. Amy Sedaris then moved to New York, where she collaborated with David as half of The Talent Family. Their plays include Jamboree, Stump the Host, Stitches, One-Woman Shoe (Obie Award), Incident at Cobbler's Knob, Little Frieda Mysteries and The Book of Liz.
Amy Sedaris has been a cast member of The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told, The Country Club (Nominated for a Drama Desk Award) and Wonder of the World (Nominated for Lucille Lortel Award). Received, along with David, a Special Citation from Drama Desk Awards for the "unique quality of their work". From April 1999 to October 2000, Amy Sedaris created and starred in the Comedy Central show Strangers with Candy, playing aging high-school student (and former junkie whore) Jerri Blank. (Dinello and Colbert were also creators and stars of the short-lived series.) Amy Sedaris is now a regular on HBO's Sex and the City. Here, Amy Sedaris is playing a staffer at a company publishing a collection of Carrie's columns.
